Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners to Consider Amazon Proposal at June 19 Board Meeting
Proposal has Potential to Create 1,000 Jobs

Amazon.com, through an affiliate entity, proposes to establish a wholesale trade fulfillment center operation (the “Fulfillment Center”) in the State of Florida and is considering among other options a location in unincorporated Hillsborough County. This project has the potential of creating 375 new higher-wage quality jobs with average wages of $47,581, which is at least 115% of the State’s private sector average wage.

The location under consideration is in the South Shore Corporate Park, located in southern Hillsborough County near State Road 674 and I-75.

Hillsborough County staff has also been advised that in the aggregate, the Fulfillment Center is expected to:

- Generate more than 1,000 permanent jobs (including the 375 higher-wage jobs mentioned above)
- Create additional seasonal temporary employment opportunities
- Generate up to $200 million in capital investment and includes a one-million-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility

The Board of County Commissioners will be considering a proposal that would approve a State of Florida Qualified Targeted Industry (QTI) job creation incentive for 375 jobs that will meet the higher wage criteria of at least 115% of the State average wage. In addition the County will consider an Ad Valorem tax exemption for a portion of the project’s County taxes for a limited time period of 7 years.

The QTI will be considered at the BOCC meeting to be held on June 19 and final consideration of the partial Ad Valorem tax exemption will be considered at the July 17 BOCC meeting.

The agenda item for the June 19 meeting can be accessed online at http://www.hillsboroughcounty.org/index.aspx?nid=2565.
